MS Dhoni is set to embark on his 18th Indian Premier League (IPL) season at the age of 43. Having debuted in first-class cricket in 2000, Dhoni continues to be a pivotal figure for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). In the previous season, he amassed 161 runs with an impressive strike rate of 220.54 and an average of 53.66 over 11 innings, maintaining his sharpness behind the stumps.
Former teammate Harbhajan Singh recently shared insights into Dhoni’s enduring passion for the game. At a recent wedding function, Harbhajan observed Dhoni’s remarkable fitness and inquired about his motivation to continue playing. Dhoni responded, “It is hard, but this is the only thing I like doing. I enjoy it. As the clock ticks to 4 or 5 in the evening, I want to go and play. And I want to do it.” This statement underscores Dhoni’s unwavering hunger and dedication to cricket.
Since retiring from international cricket in August 2020, Dhoni has exclusively participated in the IPL. Harbhajan highlighted the challenges of playing at such a high level without regular competitive cricket but noted Dhoni’s exceptional preparation. “He is not just surviving but dominating all bowlers. He faces so many deliveries in the practice that he does 2-3 months before the IPL,” Harbhajan remarked.
Dhoni’s enduring commitment and rigorous practice regimen continue to inspire both fans and fellow cricketers, solidifying his legacy in the sport.
