Shubman Gill made headlines with a spectacular unbeaten 119 from 176 balls in the third innings of the first Test against Bangladesh. This century marked his fifth in the World Test Championship (WTC), propelling him past Virat Kohli, Mayank Agarwal, and Rishabh Pant to claim the second-highest number of centuries for India in the WTC.
India is currently facing Bangladesh in the first Test of a two-match series at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Despite a tough start on Day 1, where India was on the back foot, they have since dominated the match. One of the key contributors to India’s strong position has been Shubman Gill. Although he was dismissed for a duck in the first innings, Gill made a stunning comeback in the third innings with his brilliant century.
Gill’s unbeaten 119 also included a 167-run partnership with Rishabh Pant for the fourth wicket, further cementing India’s commanding position in the match.

India Sets a 515-Run Target for Bangladesh
Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bowl first. India struggled early, reduced to 144/6 on Day 1, with Yashasvi Jaiswal’s half-century being the only notable contribution. However, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja turned the game around with a 199-run partnership for the 7th wicket. Jadeja fell for 86, while Ashwin went on to score 113, marking his 6th Test century. India eventually posted a total of 376 in their first innings.
In response, Bangladesh faltered, bowled out for just 149 runs. Jasprit Bumrah led the Indian bowling attack with four wickets, while Akash Deep, Ravindra Jadeja, and Mohammed Siraj claimed two wickets each.
On Day 3, both Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant scored centuries, leading India to declare at 287/4, setting Bangladesh a daunting target of 515 runs to win the match.
