Shreyas Iyer Wins ICC Coveted Award
Iyer of India was adjudged the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for March 2025 in view of his record-breaking performance that played a major role in helping India emerge champion of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He beat several quality competitors like New Zealand’s Jacob Duffy and Rachin Ravindra to grab the coveted award.
His control and consistency with the bat were instrumental in India’s tournament victory. Throughout the month, he made 172 runs in three games, averaging 57.33 with a strike rate of 77.47.
Key Performances That Defined Iyer’s March
- Group Stage vs New Zealand: Scored a vital 79 off 98 balls, taking India to a fighting total of 250 on a tough pitch.
- Semi-Final against Australia: Added 45 runs off 62 balls, supporting India’s run chase in a closely contested game.
- Final against New Zealand: Played a steady 48 off 62 deliveries, leading India to a victory and clinching the championship.
These efforts ranked him as the tournament’s highest run-scorer with a total of 243 runs, reflecting his ability to remain composed and adaptable during pressure situations.
Iyer’s Reaction to Winning the Award
After the announcement, Iyer said that he was thankful, describing the award as a fond memory in a winning campaign. He thanked his teammates, coaches, and supporters for their support, attributing the team culture to his personal success.
“It’s an amazing achievement to be the ICC Men’s Player of the Month. It means a lot, particularly after getting a historic Champions Trophy victory with the team,” Iyer added.
Sustaining India’s Winning Streak
With Iyer’s victory in March, India became the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for the second consecutive month, after Shubman Gill’s award in February 2025. The back-to-back awards indicate India’s consistent performance and depth in world cricket.
