Following the release of an application by BCCI, a number of names have emerged as candidates for the role of head coach of the Indian men’s national team. Among them is the former captain of Australia, Ricky Ponting. Since then, he has said that he was highly interested in accepting the role when the BCCI approached him about it.
Ponting also holds the positions of director of strategy for the Hobart Hurricanes and head coach of the Washington Freedom in the MLC, where he recently inked a two-year contract.
The T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies is immediately followed by the MLC competition. He has worked with Australia’s T20I and ODI teams in the past.
The BCCI stated that the post of head coach would be open for all three formats for a period of three and a half years, starting in July 2024 and ending in December 2027.
