Last year, Neeraj threw 88.36m in Doha and also won the Paavo Nurmi event with 85.97m. In the qualifying event, Indian runner-up Neeraj Kishore Jena threw 80.73m in Group A.
But that was not enough to qualify. Kenya’s Julius Yego and Czech Jakub Vadlejch automatically qualified for the finals with impressive 85.97m and 85.63m respectively. Germany’s Julian Weber qualified with 87.76m, while Anderson Peters, who threw 88.63m, was the season’s best.
There is automatic qualification for anyone who clears 84m.
