Lakshya Sen, India’s rising badminton star, has expressed his desire to emulate Virat Kohli’s cricketing success in his sport.
The revelation came after Sen’s impressive performance at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where he missed out on a bronze medal. Despite this setback, he received many kudos for defeating several high-profile opponents during the tournament.
Sen’s journey and achievements in badminton
At just 23 years of age, Sen has made significant strides in his career. His achievements include winning several tournaments, placing second in the All England Open 2022 and being part of the Indian team that won gold in the prestigious Thomas tournament in 2022.
He also won the Commonwealth gold medal in Hangzhou, confirming his status as a promising talent in Indian badminton.
Lakshya Sen’s response to social media comparisons with Kohli
Sen recently responded to social media memes comparing him to Kohli, expressing his desire to be the ‘Kohli of Indian badminton’.
The comparison was made by Sen’s no-look backhand against Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie, which many players compared to Kohli’s six in the 2022 T20 World Cup.
“What happened? I think, at the same time, he has done a lot for Indian cricket and yes, I want to be the Virat Kohli of badminton,” said the president.
Sen’s future plans and training
After his Olympic journey, Sen is now preparing to train at the Red Bull Athlete Performance Center in Salzburg.
His coach Vimal Kumar stressed the importance of improving the physical condition of the young player to raise his level of play. Sen will spend a week in Austria to focus on his health before returning to the tournament in September, signaling his determination to achieve his goal of becoming the ‘Virat Kohli of Indian badminton’.
