India defeated South Korea 3-1 in their fourth round-robin match of the Asian Champions Trophy 2024.

The Indian men’s hockey team maintained their impressive form at the Men’s Asian Champions Trophy 2024, extending their winning streak with a 3-1 victory over South Korea in their fourth round-robin match on Thursday, September 12. This triumph comes after India’s bronze medal success at the 2024 Paris Olympics in August, highlighting their continued excellence under captain Harmanpreet Singh.

After defeating China, Japan, and delivering a crushing victory over Malaysia on Wednesday, September 11, the Men in Blue showcased their skills once again at the Mogi Training Base in Hulunbuir City, Inner Mongolia, China.

India’s Goals Secure Another Win

Two Indian players made their mark on the scoreboard in this victory. Araijeet Singh Hundal opened the scoring for India with a goal in the eighth minute. Moments later, captain Harmanpreet Singh doubled the lead with a precise penalty corner, giving India a strong start. Harmanpreet further strengthened India’s advantage by converting another penalty corner in the third quarter, helping his team secure the 3-1 win.

Match Summary

India dominated from the start, with Hundal’s early strike setting the tone. Harmanpreet Singh followed up with a penalty corner conversion to make it 2-0 in the first quarter. South Korea managed to pull one back just before halftime, with Yang Jihun converting a penalty corner.

Despite Korea’s efforts, India maintained their momentum, with Harmanpreet’s second goal in the third quarter providing a crucial two-goal cushion. The final quarter saw both teams playing at a high level, but neither side added to the scoreline. India secured their fourth consecutive win in the tournament.

Strong Position in the Points Table

This 3-1 victory solidified India’s top spot on the points table, with 12 points from four matches. They now sit seven points clear of second-placed Pakistan and third-placed South Korea.

India will next face arch-rivals Pakistan on Saturday, September 14, at 1:30 pm IST, in their final round-robin match at the Mogi Training Base. With a commanding lead in the standings, the Harmanpreet-led team looks poised for further success in the tournament.
