Rajasthan Royals Penalized Again for Repeating Mistake
Sanju Samson, captain of Rajasthan Royals, has been fined ₹24 lakh by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) due to a slow over rate during their match against Gujarat Titans. This is the team’s second violation of the Indian Premier League’s Code of Conduct related to over rate.
Second Time Offending the Rule
The Rajasthan Royals were earlier penalized for a similar issue in a previous match against Chennai Super Kings. At that time, Riyan Parag, who was acting as captain, was fined ₹12 lakh.
Fines Extended to Other Players
In the recent incident against Gujarat Titans, not only Samson but also the rest of the playing eleven and the impact player were fined. Each of them was charged either ₹6 lakh or 25% of their match fees, depending on which amount was lower.
Match Result: Rajasthan Royals Defeated
Gujarat Titans won the match by a margin of 58 runs. Sai Sudharsan led the scoring with 82 runs off 53 balls, while Jos Buttler, Shahrukh Khan, and Rahul Tewatia also made significant contributions. The Titans posted a strong total of 217 for 6.
Despite efforts from Shimron Hetmyer (52 runs) and Sanju Samson (41 runs), the Royals were bowled out for 159 runs in 19.1 overs.
Impact and Warning
Repeated violations of over-rate rules could result in stricter penalties or suspension for players. The team needs to manage time better on the field to comply with league regulations and avoid further issues.
