The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) is set to receive a substantial boost from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) ahead of the Paris Olympics 2024. BCCI President Jay Shah has pledged a generous financial aid of Rs 8.5 crore to bolster the Indian contingent’s preparations. And participation in the upcoming summer Games.
In an official statement, Jay Shah expressed his pride in supporting India’s exceptional athletes heading to the 2024 Paris Olympics. “I am proud to announce that the BCCI will be supporting our incredible athletes representing India at the 2024 Paris Olympics. We are providing INR 8.5 Crores to the IOA for the campaign. To our entire contingent, we wish you the very best. Make India proud! Jai Hind!,” Jay Shah conveyed through ‘X’, extending heartfelt wishes to the athletes for a successful campaign.
Diverse Representation in India’s Olympic Contingent
The Indian contingent for the Paris Olympics comprises a diverse group of 117 members. Including 47 female and 70 male athletes. Track and field holds the largest representation with 29 athletes, followed by shooters with 21 athletes. Mirabai Chanu, the silver medalist from the 2021 Tokyo Games, stands as India’s sole representative in weightlifting. Additionally, disciplines like Equestrian, Judo, and Rowing will each be represented by one athlete.
Record Support Staff to Athlete Ratio
A notable first for India at the Olympics is the nearly 1:1 ratio of athletes to support staff members. A total of 67 coaches and 72 other support staff members will accompany the Indian contingent to the Paris Olympics, marking a significant step towards enhancing the athletes’ performance and overall experience at the global event.
By providing substantial financial backing and assembling a robust support team, BCCI aims to contribute significantly to India’s quest for Olympic success at Paris 2024.
