In a remarkable display of bowling, 23-year-old Haryana seamer Anshul Kamboj claimed an impressive 8-wicket haul for India C in the ongoing Duleep Trophy match against India B at the Rural Development Trust Stadium in Anantapur.
Kamboj’s exceptional right-arm medium pace dismantled India B’s batting lineup, putting his team in a strong position. He finished the first innings with outstanding figures of 8 for 69 in 27.5 overs. Taking key wickets including Musheer Khan, Sarfaraz Khan, Rinku Singh, and Nitish Reddy.
This bowling masterclass helped India C gain a significant lead of 193 runs by the end of both teams’ first innings. On the third day, Kamboj took five wickets and added three more in the morning session of the fourth day, showcasing his dominance.
His figures of 8 for 69 are now the fifth-best bowling performance in Duleep Trophy history. The record for the most wickets in an innings in the tournament belongs to Debasis Mohanty, who took 10 wickets for 46 runs for East Zone against South Zone. Other notable performances include Baloo Gupte with 9 for 55 in 1963. Saurabh Kumar with 8 for 64 in 2023, and Arshad Ayub with 8 for 65 in 1987. With Kamboj now joining the list.
For India B, only captain Abhimanyu Easwaran and wicketkeeper Narayan Jagadeesan made significant contributions. Easwaran played a resilient knock, remaining unbeaten on 157 runs off 286 balls. While Jagadeesan scored a solid 70 off 137 deliveries.
Kamboj’s cricketing journey includes 14 First-Class matches with 27 wickets. 15 List A games with 23 wickets, and 12 T20s, in which he has claimed 13 wickets.
