Gujarat Titans (GT), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), and Punjab Kings (PBKS) have officially secured their spots in the IPL 2025 playoffs after GT’s win over Delhi Capitals (DC) on Sunday night.
With this result, only one playoff spot remains up for grabs. Delhi Capitals (DC), Mumbai Indians (MI), and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are still in the race for the final qualification spot.
GT now lead the points table with 18 points, followed closely by RCB and PBKS, both on 17 points. With all three teams having completed 12 matches. LSG, who can reach a maximum of 16 point. If they win all three of their remaining games, remain mathematically in contention. However, only one of MI (currently on 14 points) or DC (on 13 points) can reach 17 or more, as they are set to face each other on May 21.
If Delhi Capitals (DC) lose to Mumbai Indians (MI)
If Delhi Capitals (DC) lose to Mumbai Indians (MI), they will be knocked out of playoff contention. On the other hand, if MI lose to DC. They must win their final league match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) and hope DC also lose their last game—also against PBKS—while Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) must drop at least one of their remaining three matches for MI to stand a chance.
Gujarat Titans (GT) have now qualified for the playoffs for the third time in four IPL season. While Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have done so for the fifth time in six years. PBKS, meanwhile, have secured a top-four finish for the first time since IPL 2014—a significant achievement under the leadership of new captain Shreyas Iyer and coach Ricky Ponting.
Although GT, RCB, and PBKS have already sealed their playoff berths, the race for a top-two finish is still on. Finishing in the top two is crucial, as it offers teams two opportunities to reach the final. The top two teams face off in Qualifier 1, with the winner earning a direct spot in the final. The loser of that match will get another shot in Qualifier 2 against the winner of the Eliminator. Which is played between the third and fourth-placed teams.
