The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made the decision to sack three members of the support staff of the Indian cricket team, all of whom were part of head coach Gautam Gambhir’s camp. This comes after India’s recent loss in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where they lost the four-match series 1-3 against Australia.
Reason Behind the Dismissal
The reports say that the firing of these staff members was not just based on the performance of the team. Leaks from the dressing room throughout the series also created concern in the BCCI. These leaks apparently hurt team morale and confidentiality of strategy.
Gambhir’s Stand on Discipline and Strategy
Reports indicate that Gambhir was not satisfied with the lack of discipline in the team. He is reported to have greatly stressed the need to stick to team strategies and remain united. The internal problems, as well as the external distractions, are thought to have diluted the focus of the team throughout the series.
Future Policy Changes Under Review
Following the series result and accompanying events, the BCCI is said to be revising its internal rules. The proposed amendments are tighter conduct regulations, fewer privileges for support staff, and restrictions on the time players’ families can accompany them on tours. These measures are meant to ensure professionalism and avoid distractions during important matches.
