The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have officially named Rajat Patidar as their captain for the IPL 2025 season. Patidar, who was competing for the leadership role alongside former skipper Virat Kohli, has been entrusted with the responsibility of leading the franchise in their pursuit of a maiden IPL title. The 31-year-old’s appointment signals RCB’s long-term vision, continuing the leadership legacy of former captains like Rahul Dravid, Kevin Pietersen, Anil Kumble, Daniel Vettori, Virat Kohli, and Faf du Plessis.
Patidar’s Leadership Credentials
Patidar brings captaincy experience from his domestic career, having led Madhya Pradesh (MP) across formats. In the 2023 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he guided MP to the final, finishing as the second-highest run-getter with 428 runs in 10 matches at an average of 61.14. And a staggering strike rate of 186+, including five half-centuries.
Two Teams Yet to Confirm Captains
With RCB’s latest captaincy announcement on Thursday, February 13, eight teams have finalized their leaders, while two franchises. Including the reigning champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Delhi Capitals (DC), are yet to confirm their captains.
One of the biggest moves ahead of IPL 2025 was Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) appointing Rishabh Pant as their captain after signing him for a record-breaking ₹27 crore, following the release of KL Rahul, who has now joined Delhi Capitals.
